Online materials dedicated to the gender aspects of water management in Central Asia and Afghanistan

The goal of the proceedings is to attend a broad audience to the improvement of regional communities through
extension of women’s role in water sector management.
The articles in the proceedings are grouped into three main blocks: “Women and water education”, “Women
and access to water” and “Women in water resource management”. The articles describe examples from
Central Asia and some other countries.
The proceedings is intended for regional activists, researchers and politicians involved in solving practical
issues related to the role of women in the water sector. The proceedings will be useful to all readers interested
in the status of women in relation to the practical issue of water resources management.

Compilation of the materials from participants of the regional project

Water resources are one of the main factors of economic development in the Central Asian region, significantly affected by climate change at different levels. Despite the recognition of the role of women in water management, the introduction of methods and strategies to overcome gender and, not only, barriers to women’s equal participation remains unclear. Therefore, a gender perspective in water management becomes especially important in a situation where water is becoming less and competition among users is growing. The purpose of the events is to provide opportunities for young scientists, researchers, international and regional experts, students, etc. to discuss key gender issues in the field of water resources and to promote the development of local community capacities.
