Quote from Ekaterina on 18.05.2020, 08:36@Khaibullina Zhaniya would you consider water-related disasters in Kazakhstan primarily due to natural hazards or man-made? Are there any data on the correlation between women’s participation and gender sensitivity?

Thanks for your questions! I considered natural disasters. As I told during the presentation, it is very complicated to find correlation in DRR.

Quote from Ekaterina on 18.05.2020, 08:41@Zhanay Sagintayev, to prevent natural disasters like flooding, shall we control the nature? In your presentation it was stated by you - do not control the nature and make the flooding to flood the areas.

Primary to man-made, it is typical in Kazakhstan to build something without proper prediction analysis, engineering modeling what may happen in the future in 25-50-100 years. Most constructions are short term, just for the current need somebody

@Alice Bouman-Dentener : In my experience we need to look at the intersectionality of gender. Women stechnical cientists are not necessarily more gender sensitive than men. The equally look through their professional lens and do not necessarily take gender into consideration

@Nazgul Sharshenova : construction of any kind of irrigation structures is very costly, therefore construction of any dams requires the conducting of the Feasibility Study. In Kyrgyzstan the Water Users Associations are well developed and women are actively participated in WUAs leadership, even some WUAs are led by women.

@Zhanay Sagintayev: most of the ministerial, meteorology, water resource agencies are disintegrated: meteorology is not connected to surface water resource organizations, the groundwater data is under security control. It will be reasonable to have the connected meteorology-surface water-groundwater localized basin base platforms in Central Asia

@Nazgul Sharshenova : Mr. Zhanay, it was very interesting to see your presentation especially the ideas you shared. I will share the information in early next week on WUA leadership in Kyrgyzstan. World Bank project implemented in early 2000 promoted a lot the establishment of WUA and women leadership as well.
